Open source provides access to code under each licence’s terms. For an SME, its value is mainly practical: hosting an application, sharing files, virtualising servers or securing a connection. An open product does not replace capacity planning, maintenance or backups. Sunitech helps you compare options and define a realistic scope for your organisation. These six technologies address different needs and are not a suite that should automatically be installed together.
A foundation for servers and applications, with a distribution, support period and operational skills chosen to suit your needs.
A virtualisation platform to size around compute, storage and networking. Backup and recovery procedures still need to be designed.
Managed file and collaboration spaces, with sharing rules, account administration and tested backups.
Applications distributed in containers, with their images and dependencies. Persistent data, secrets and updates require ongoing management.
A firewall and routing solution configured around permitted traffic, network segmentation and the remote access you need.
A VPN protocol for encrypted tunnels. Key distribution, revocation and routing form part of the chosen architecture.
From initial scoping to ongoing support, the agreed work and each party’s responsibilities are defined with you before implementation.
Installation, configuration and support.
Protection of data and access.
Monitoring, updates and optimisation.
Backup strategy and disaster recovery planning.
Tenant management, backups and administration.
A local, responsive and available team.
We start with your teams’ needs, business applications and organisational constraints.

Share client files between colleagues, with appropriate access and documents that are easy to find.

Protect patient records and maintain the tools needed for consultations.

Find plans and files on site while keeping control of access for everyone involved.

Organise access for employees, elected representatives and volunteers, and make handovers easier when teams change.
Tools alone are not enough. Ongoing management, access and documentation need to remain clear over time.
Roles, permissions and protections suited to the agreed scope.
Identified dependencies, with backup and recovery arrangements to prepare.
Documented joiners, leavers and changes in responsibility.
Accessible configuration, licence and upcoming renewal records.
Uses, limitations and frequently asked questions: the points to clarify when preparing your project.
Before replacing a tool, check the applications it supports, file formats and what your teams expect. Some business software requires a particular operating system, driver or platform. We suggest mapping these dependencies in an IT audit, then comparing the current setup with an open alternative. A mixed architecture can retain essential applications while changing only the services for which an alternative makes sense.
The service needs to remain operable when the person who installed it is unavailable. Administration access, versions, dependencies and useful procedures should be documented. Backup and disaster recovery cover the data and configuration needed to restart. We agree the required checks, update windows and intervention arrangements with you. Vendor or third-party support can complement your available skills, depending on the product and the agreed scope.
No. Compare the total cost: hardware or hosting, possible subscriptions, integration, training, maintenance and recovery. A licence without a usage fee does not mean that operation costs nothing. Your teams’ time and future dependencies matter too. Our IT governance support helps weigh these criteria against your business objectives.
Yes, provided interfaces, permissions and responsibilities are assessed. A business could keep its email service while evaluating a different file service or server platform, for example. Check the functions actually available and the licences for each product. Shared identities, client devices and backups are design considerations rather than compatibility that should be assumed.
Plan reversibility with usable backups, documented exports and accounts whose access your organisation controls. We aim to make technical decisions and handover procedures understandable. Open software can make some changes easier, but does not by itself guarantee a straightforward migration. Explore the Linux, Nextcloud and Docker guides for each tool’s constraints.
See the Linux kernel documentation, the Proxmox VE manual, the Nextcloud administration guide, the Docker overview, the OPNsense documentation and the WireGuard project. Check the features and terms applicable to the versions you choose.
