Proxmox Virtual Environment combines management of KVM virtual machines and Linux LXC containers in a web interface. For an SME in French-speaking Switzerland, its value depends on applications, available skills and recovery arrangements. Sunitech helps prepare an installation or assess migration within a documented scope. The project identifies relevant machines, dependencies and acceptance checks before moving a service.
Prepare processing, memory and virtual devices for the systems and applications your business intends to host.
Assess Linux services suitable for containers, taking the shared kernel and application constraints into account.
Organise accounts, permissions and operating documentation for hosts and the machines they support.
Choose local or shared storage around data volumes, recovery needs and constraints of the project.
Plan communication paths and expected availability before choosing a single-host or multi-host architecture.
Define machine protection, copy locations and restoration tests needed to bring services back into operation.
From initial scoping to ongoing support, the agreed work and each party’s responsibilities are defined with you before implementation.
Installation, configuration and support.
Protection of data and access.
Monitoring, updates and optimisation.
Backup strategy and disaster recovery planning.
Tenant management, backups and administration.
A local, responsive and available team.
We start with your teams’ needs, business applications and organisational constraints.

Share client files between colleagues, with appropriate access and documents that are easy to find.

Protect patient records and maintain the tools needed for consultations.

Find plans and files on site while keeping control of access for everyone involved.

Organise access for employees, elected representatives and volunteers, and make handovers easier when teams change.
Tools alone are not enough. Ongoing management, access and documentation need to remain clear over time.
Roles, permissions and protections suited to the agreed scope.
Identified dependencies, with backup and recovery arrangements to prepare.
Documented joiners, leavers and changes in responsibility.
Accessible configuration, licence and upcoming renewal records.
Uses, limitations and frequently asked questions: the points to clarify when preparing your project.
Assessment covers guest systems, business applications and functions used on the current platform. We check application vendor requirements, support needs and available backup tools. Administration time and maintenance also belong in the comparison. Proxmox VE being open source does not replace design work; selected subscriptions and services form part of the project budget. Compatibility must be demonstrated for your workloads instead of assumed from another deployment.
A virtual machine depends on identifiable network paths and storage volumes. We document interfaces, management networks and application connections. Storage capacity includes data, growth and planned operations. With several hosts, architecture is assessed against cluster communication and recovery requirements. A simple configuration should remain understandable to the people who maintain it, with administrative accounts and changes clearly documented.
A pilot uses a machine whose operation can be checked: startup, network access, applications and backup. We prepare the copy, necessary adaptations and rollback conditions before testing. Users confirm important tasks. Compatibility observed on one machine does not validate the entire estate. Our cloud and infrastructure support helps organise migration groups and their maintenance windows.
The platform needs a backup method, recurring checks and update monitoring. Proxmox VE integrates with Proxmox Backup Server, but repository design and location still need planning. We define a test to recover a machine and verify its service. IT continuity also depends on access, available hardware and the information needed to rebuild the environment. Named responsibilities help keep those arrangements usable when the original installer is unavailable.
Can Proxmox run on one server? Yes. Recovery requirements and the consequences of losing that host should be explicit before selecting this architecture.
Does a cluster replace backups? No. It coordinates multiple hosts and can support an availability strategy. Separate copies are still needed for mistakes, deletion and data loss, with restoration tests.
The Proxmox VE features overview explains integrated technologies. The Proxmox VE administration guide describes prerequisites and configuration. Apply it to the version and hardware selected for your project.
