A Synology NAS can store working files, receive backups or combine several roles. These uses need separating before sizing equipment. For an SME in French-speaking Switzerland, Sunitech starts with volumes, users and the data to recover after an incident. Design also considers administration, remote access and copies kept somewhere other than the NAS used every day.
Organise working folders and their permissions with the teams responsible for documents and retention.
Prepare accounts, permissions and useful notifications for monitoring the NAS and its installed applications.
Size usable capacity against data growth and the compatibility requirements of the selected Synology model.
Assess NAS copies to supported destinations with a schedule and retention suited to business requirements.
Check supported machines and platforms before preparing their backups to a compatible Synology device.
Test restoration using the access, keys and tools required to retrieve and verify files.
From initial scoping to ongoing support, the agreed work and each party’s responsibilities are defined with you before implementation.
Configuration and monitoring of local and cloud backups.
Backup of workstations, servers, Microsoft 365 and business applications.
A recovery plan tailored to your critical services.
Clear, up-to-date procedures for your teams.
Regular restore tests to check that procedures work.
A dedicated contact to develop your solutions as your needs change.
We start with your teams’ needs, business applications and organisational constraints.

Share client files between colleagues, with appropriate access and documents that are easy to find.

Protect patient records and maintain the tools needed for consultations.

Find plans and files on site while keeping control of access for everyone involved.

Organise access for employees, elected representatives and volunteers, and make handovers easier when teams change.
Tools alone are not enough. Ongoing management, access and documentation need to remain clear over time.
Roles, permissions and protections suited to the agreed scope.
Identified dependencies, with backup and recovery arrangements to prepare.
Documented joiners, leavers and changes in responsibility.
Accessible configuration, licence and upcoming renewal records.
Uses, limitations and frequently asked questions: the points to clarify when preparing your project.
We distinguish current working data, retained versions and expected growth. Raw disk capacity differs from usable space after the chosen arrangement. Memory, networking and installed applications may also influence the project. Disks and components are checked against the compatibility list for the actual model. An IT audit helps identify uses that have accumulated on a NAS already in production.
Shares should reflect work needs: reading, editing and administration. We inventory user groups and existing access before reorganising folders. Administrative accounts, remote access and recovery methods receive separate attention. Staff arrivals and departures should be manageable without relying on a forgotten personal account. Owners of sensitive folders help verify permissions before they are put into use. The handover records who may change those rights later.
Hyper Backup prepares backups from the Synology system to supported destinations. Active Backup for Business protects compatible machines and services to the NAS. These functions answer different questions. We check model prerequisites, application versions and relevant platforms. Your backup plan identifies which data is copied, where it is held and how long it is kept, together with the people responsible for checking outcomes.
A disk arrangement can improve tolerance of certain hardware failures without protecting against every deletion or the loss of a site. We assess separate copies, access and the information needed to read them. Authorised people must be able to recover encryption keys. A test retrieves a representative file and checks its content in an environment that respects production data. Recovery planning should also consider what happens if the original NAS cannot start.
Does RAID replace a backup? No. It addresses certain hardware scenarios depending on the configuration. Separate copies and verified restoration address other risks.
Can disks be added later? It depends on the model, available slots and volume arrangement. We verify the procedure and backup condition before expansion; another product range does not establish compatibility.
